Great for precision tasks Jul 29, 2010
By Goosecat The stretchy material and thin leather grips make this glove great for almost all tasks. You won't have the same precision as a bare hand obviously but this glove comes pretty close while providing good protection from cuts, blunt trauma, and vibration. I'm on my 2nd pair because I wore out my first.
I would caution against using this glove when handling splintery wood or anything with lots of sharp points. I experienced a splinter which fairly easily penetrated the stretchy material. For these situations, I would use a 100% leather glove.
Update Feb 2011: I've now worn out my 2nd pair - the stretchy material at the thumb ripped apart. These gloves work and feel great but prepare to replace them regularly if you use them a lot.

A Perfect Glove Oct 14, 2009
By Ryan Scales

This glove combines the durability of a heavy duty work glove with the dexterity of a quality mechanics glove. The 'goat skin' palm and fingers is much thicker than previous Mechanix gloves I've owned in the past and seems like it's going to stand up to the wear and tear and also the chemical damage that I am constantly placing on my gloves. I am a helicopter mechanic and these gloves have so far proved their worth plus some!! A great buy...

one tough glove Sep 12, 2009
By C. LaFond This is one of the best all around construction/work gloves I have used the double layer of leather on the finger tips wears much better than any synthetic material based gloves I have used in the past 5-10 years.

they'd be perfect if... Aug 06, 2011

they lasted longer before wearing holes in the thumbs.
I'm just an enthusiastic DIY'ing homeowner. I use these gloves for various projects, from framing and building, to operating various lawn care equipment, to loading and unloading lumber, etc. Nothing crazy. I'd call my usage just moderate.
I'm on my second pair of these gloves. I'm in agreement with the rest of the reviewers for the most part with regard to comfort, protection and dexterity, however, these gloves just don't last as long as they should.
It's that area between the tip of the thumb and the pad of the thumb on the palm wears out waaaaaaay too fast because it's made of that suedey stuff instead of the leather used on the fingers. So what you end up with is flappy thumbs, and that's no good. No one likes flappy thumbs, do they?
I tried cutting the flappy thumbs off on an older pair once I bought my second pair. Eh. Just not the same. Plus, thumbs need protection, too. Suppose I could have gone the old duct tape/cloth tape route, but come on, these gloves aren't exactly cheap, are they.
I've contacted MW about this. If they're getting enough similar reports, I hope they redesign the glove, because I do enjoy that it is relatively light weight and breathable.
My next glove will be the Commercial Grade Heavy Duty, that has an all leather palm and fingers.

Wore them out in 2 Weeks Jul 10, 2011
By Richard

Wore them while doing some yard work; mowing the lawn, weed eating, some raking and shoveling. Wore these gloves while scrapping paint and doing some repair work around the garage. In less than 2 weeks, wore holes in them. These gloves are not very durable. Not worth the price paid.
