(5/5) Good Civilian Protection Jan 25, 2011
By T. Ho First off, these gloves are great for civilians but for those of you in the military, I highly suggest buying custom fitted gloves while using these as just for backup.
I gave these pair of gloves a 5 out of 5 (at a civilian standpoint) because these will work very nicely where civilians typically won't be wearing these as often as a person in the military)
Here are the pro(s) and con(s) that I came up with after wearing them for over a month:
Pro(s):
- Good knuckle protection (you can pretty much properly punch anything without hurting your knuckles, but you still need to protect your wrists)
- Quite dexterous (I am able to race with them and also use my Remington 870 and SA M1911 comfortably with these gloves; however, I still believe that these gloves are NOT for the military level, maybe as backup though)
- Easy Velcro fastening at the wrists on forearm side
- Not very flashy (good for night operations if necessary)
- Strong stitching (There might be some of these gloves that might have poor stitching that passed QC, but other than that, the quality is up to par)
- Comfortable (BUT for some people, this opinion may be different because everyone IS different)
- Good grip
- Washable
- Pretty good fit (although in my case, I'd want a small pair but with medium sized knuckle-protection since my knuckles are big but my hands are between medium and small)
Con(s):
- You have to really make sure you have the right size otherwise the molded knuckles will end up hurting you if they're too big or too small for your hand
Other Notes:
- Made in Vietnam
- Noticeably made with synthetic leather at the palm and at the finger tips, carbon kevlar molding at the knuckles, and a suede material with reinforced spandex at the joints (inside the gloves will have the full list of the materials used)
- Stitching is quite nice; however, there have been complaints that the stitching gave way after an hour (that wasn't the case for me, I guess you just need to be lucky to not get a pair that will come loose or fray)
Recommendation(s)/Suggestion(s):
- *** Go to Mechanix website and go to their FAQ to find out what size you are according to their charts (I usually wear small because I like tighter fitting gloves; however, I stuck with mediums when it came to these gloves because the knuckle-protection on the mediums molded my knuckles perfectly so a smaller size would make the knuckle-protection too small)
- Also, as I said before, if you're in the military, please buy gloves custom fitted for you because having the perfect fitting glove can give you potentially more time to draw your weapon and fire and decrease the possibility of snagging or gripping issues and those split seconds are a matter between life and death!
- Please do test these gloves out before reviewing this product (too many people just try on gloves and other apparel without realizing that some of these products need time to break into)
- If you're going to be handling something wet, try spraying on water-resistant material, that should help prevent them from soaking (but it won't make them water-proof okay)
- Buy a small clip/ring that can keep these glove together since they don't have anything to keep them together when you don't need them
- Also, learn how to sew so you can fix minor problems now and in the future (yes, I said sew, there's NOTHING wrong with trying to repair/mend/enhance your own gear, especially if your "partner" won't do it for you)
Overall, these pair of gloves work very well at a civilian level.
Thanks for reading this review. Cheers!

Really great pair. Feb 13, 2011
By ETB These gloves definitely exceeded my expectations. I've worn these while training in freezing weather, handled fiery logs in a fire pit, and they can withstand very hard shots on the knuckles with impact weapons. They won't keep your hands completely warm and toasty, but they'll definitely keep them from going numb.
Don't expect to be able to work a touch screen phone with them or have much tactile sensitivity, but you can still tie your shoes with them.

Just as I'd expect... Sep 10, 2011
By btrose2122 These gloves do their job. I'm an infantryman in the Marines and these gloves are definitely able to hold up to the rigors of patrolling around Afghanistan. During the five months that I wore them in country they didn't rip or fall apart like some gloves tend to do.

Good to go! Jul 23, 2011
By Edward Fire Good quality, especially for the price!
Unlike leather gloves of similar design, these ones don't leave your hands all sweaty and stinky after a few days of rugged use. Most importantly, these gloves provide EXCELLENT hand protection when punching someone in the face. As far as I can tell, you won't get anyone's teeth stuck in your knuckles when you wear these "mittens" during a scuffle.
In addition to being solid "protective" gloves, I also modified them slightly when I exposed the ends of my dominant shooting finger and opposable thumb of the same hand by cutting the ends off of the glove and then sewing them to prevent unraveling and fraying. (Good for tactile and tactical applications such as writing, not to mention shooting a firearm)
All in all... I will definitely buy another pair of Mechanix Wear MP3-05-009 Mpact3 Knuckle Protection Gloves as soon as my current pair wears out.
